Recurring Mouse Infestations: How to Change Your Lifestyle

Sure, mice are annoying. Nobody wants them in their home. However, it goes beyond that. Mice can also create health risks or cause property damage. If you are struggling with continuous infestations, there’s something about your home that attracts there rodents. Addressing those things is important if you want to prevent additional mice infestations in the future.

Lifestyle Changes to Implement

There are numerous lifestyle habits you can change to keep out mice. Below are a few that tend to work well for people with recurring infestations of rodents:

1. Store Food Properly

Mice come into homes because they know there are food sources to get into. When you store your food in airtight containers made of hard plastic, metal, or glass, the mice don’t have access to tasty bites. It’s also useful to avoid leaving food out overnight. Clean up spills and crumbs quickly, too.

2. Clean Regularly

Removing clutter, wiping down surfaces, and vacuuming the floors keeps the home clean and the mice outside. Pay attention to areas where food crumbs and bits might accumulate, such as dining rooms and kitchens.

3. Seal Entry Spots

Take a look around your house for areas where mice might come inside, such as gaps around windows and doors. Other spots to inspect include near openings for utility lines and holes in floors and walls. Seal all of these areas with steel wool or caulk to prevent mice from coming inside.

4. Maintain the Outdoors

Make sure the bushes and other plants near your home are trimmed back to take away mice hiding spots. You also want to be sure your garbage bins are sealed. If there is junk or organic material around the house, get rid of it as quickly as you can to avoid issues with mice.

5. Implement Inspections

Your calendar should remind you to do inspections of your home from time to time. Just taking the time to look for mice or ways they can get in will go a long way. Part of your inspection should be focusing on looking for nests, gnaw marks, and droppings from rodents.
