How Mice Cause Electrical Hazards

There are several electrical hazards in your home that can lead to fires. Things like frayed wires, old cords, faulty outlets, and other dangerous items are some of the most significant factors that lead to fires each year.

Did you know that one of the most significant contributors to electrical fires, especially in city areas, is mice? Normally, you may not think about it, but mice have habits that can lead to electrical hazards that can easily cause fires.

This is why it’s extremely important to remain vigilant for the presence of mice and signs that could indicate the presence of these electrical hazards. In the following section, you’ll learn about some of these hazards.

Fire and Mice

The following situations involving mice can be huge risks for electrical hazards that cause fires.

The Need for Warmth

Mice seek refuge inside your home every year, especially during the wintertime. Did you know that mice usually prefer areas that are close to electrical components because of the heat these items put out?

High amounts of activity around these components can lead to sparking and eventually a potential fire. Look for signs of mice around these components to avoid the dangers of a fire.

Gnawing

Mice love to gnaw on electric cords. They do this for multiple reasons, and all of them can potentially lead to a fire.

These creatures will chew through cords to remove them if they’re obstacles that stand in their way of travel. If cords are in their way when they’re trying to construct nests, they’ll also attempt to remove them by chewing.

It goes without saying that whenever a cord is severed or chewed, it can lead to a potential fire. Look for signs of chewing, like pieces of rubber missing from the length of any cord.

Nests

Mice will make their nests out of pretty much anything. Old paper, cardboard, and pretty much chunks of anything they can find will make a suitable next.

Because of what they’re made from, these nests are highly flammable. Look for signs of these nests by locating random pieces of paper or cardboard and other fabrics that look out of place.

It’s important to know what to look for when you think you could have an infestation of mice. Besides these creatures being undesirable, they can also be incredibly dangerous.

You might not even see a mouse before you notice signs of these electrical hazards. Contact Mice Mob Exterminatorsfor a quick solution if you think you have an infestation.
