How Do Mice Transmit Diseases to Humans?

People look toward mouse proofing in Chicago for all kinds of reasons; mice are creepy, unsightly, and sometimes shocking to behold, and they can chew through your wires and other important belongings. One of the most important reasons people practice mouse prevention is the diseases that they can potentially spread to you or your family. A mouse in the house can transmit a wealth of diseases, from leptospirosis and rat-bite fever to plague, salmonella, and Hantavirus. The worst part is that if you notice signs of mice in your home, you might already be suffering from one of these diseases and need immediate mice removal.

One of the aspects of a mouse in the house that makes it so dangerous is the variety of ways in which it can transmit diseases to humans and animals. Whether you actually see a mouse in your house or just suspect a house mice infestation has no bearing on whether or not you end up with a disease. Mice can transmit disease indirectly through fecal contamination of food and water, or a flesh wound might come into contact with mouse urine. Even other organisms that pick up diseases from house mice can transfer them to you or your family, which is why mouse proofing is so important.
