Mice Infestation

Decontaminating a Property After Mice Infestation

Having an infestation of mice is no fun but getting rid of the mice is just the first step. Unfortunately, many people only think about getting rid of the pests, not dealing with the aftermath. Not only do you need to make sure you improve the security of the home to prevent another infestation, but you also need to be sure you decontaminate the area. Disinfection after extermination is essential.

You Need to Take Precautions When Cleaning

After the mice have been exterminated, and you are sure no more mice will be getting into the home, you will want to ventilate the space. According to the CDC, you should open the doors and windows for at least 30 minutes to let fresh air enter the space.

You want to clean up any urine and droppings that you see, but you don’t want to sweep or vacuum, as this can stir up dust and put the contaminants in the air. Always wear gloves—rubber, latex, or vinyl—when cleaning up droppings and urine. You will need to spray the area with a disinfectant cleaner, or a mix of water and bleach (1 part bleach to 10 parts water). The area should soak for at least five minutes.

Use a paper towel to clean up the droppings and urine and then put them into the garbage. You will want to disinfect any items that might have been contaminated by the mice.

Clean the entire area by mopping with a disinfectant or bleach solution. This includes floors and countertops. Steam clean and shampoo carpets and upholstered furniture that might have been exposed to the rodents. Wash bedding and clothing that may have been exposed, as well.

Leave the Extermination and Disinfection to the Professionals

When you hire the right professionals in Chicago for the extermination of mice, they will also handle the disinfection process. One of the best chemicals to use for disinfection is sporicidin. It will remove odors, clean, and disinfect. The low-toxicity chemical can keep fighting bacteria for up to six months, and it can be used on a variety of surfaces including treated wood, latex, glass, plastic, and more. The professionals can handle cleaning the floors and other areas where the rodents were found.

Letting the professionals at Mice Mob Exterminators handle the work for you ensures the extermination and the disinfection are done properly. It will provide you and your family with a safe space and peace of mind.
