Have you noticed evidence of mice in your home now that it’s starting to get warmer outside? If so, you aren’t alone. A lot of people have mouse problems during the summer.
Mice that enter your home in the summer are looking out for their needs, just as they are when they try to come inside to get warm in the winter. The needs for the summer are different, though.
The summer is hot, and there may not be as many resources readily available outdoors. Think about what mice need to survive. They need food, water, and shelter, just the same as we. What better way to get those three things than by moving into a home that’s already built for them—your home. They don’t care that you were there first.
It can be harder to find water outside than it is inside. The same with food. The summers are hot, too, and being inside can help them to escape from the heat as they spend time in basements and other locations in your home.
They will try to stay hidden during the daylight hours, but you will start to notice their presence. This could be from the sound of scratching in the walls, droppings, chewed open food packages, etc.
Even though you might understand the reasons the mice are moving into your home, it doesn’t mean that you want them there. You need to make sure that you keep them out of your home and that you get rid of the ones that are already there.
You should start by trying to mouse-proof your home. This includes removing any potential nesting materials and locations, removing water and food sources, and making the place more inhospitable to them. This could make some of them move on, but you aren’t likely going to get rid of them all.
You should therefore get in touch with a reputable extermination company that can come to the house, check for the infestation, and removes the mice. The sooner you do this the better.
Once the mice are gone, make sure they don’t come back. Continue to make it inhospitable and look around your property to find and seal areas of ingress. If you work with Mice Mob Exterminators, we can help with preparing your home, and even cleaning your home from the previous infestation.
