Mice Infestation

Examining the Health Risks of a Mice Infestation

A mice infestation is much more serious than you think. Rodents like mice are known to carry more than twenty-five diseases. When they infest your home or office, they put you at risk for exposure. Keep reading to learn more about these health risks and why it is so important to have the professionals remove the mice:

Leptospirosis

Mice can carry leptospirosis. If you come into contact with the bacteria that cause this disease, you might develop a wide range of serious symptoms. Leptospirosis causes jaundice, vomiting, chills, headache, fever, rashes, and diarrhea. Without the proper treatment, this disease might lead to liver failure, breathing troubles, kidney issues, meningitis, and, in very rare circumstances, death. Mouse pest control is an important way of reducing your risk for developing this disease.

Rate Bite Fever

Although the name suggests that it is only found in rats, even mice can carry rat bite fever. You can get rat bite fever through skin contact, a bite, a scratch, or by eating or drinking something that has already been contaminated. If you get rat bite fever, you might get chills, fever, vomiting, a headache, or pain in the muscles or joints. It is important to get medical treatment or you might develop long-term symptoms.

Salmonellosis

If you come into contact with these bacteria, you might develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Mice carry salmonellosis and might expose you to it through their feces. Most patients who contract it are only sick for a few days, but some people have such severe diarrhea that they need to go to the hospital. Young children, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems are the most at risk for severe side effects of salmonellosis.

If you think you have these rodents in your home, you should call for a mouse exterminator serving Chicago. Mice control cleans out your home or office and helps you avoid these and other serious health risks.
